Skupna zunanja in varnostna politika EU: kaj določa člen 42.7 Pogodbe o Evropski uniji
Države članice EU so se zavezale skupni zunanji in varnostni politiki EU z namenom krepitve civilnih in vojaških zmogljivosti EU za preprečevanje konfliktov in krizno upravljanje.
Skupna varnostna in obrambna politika je sestavni del skupne zunanje in varnostne politike. Evropski uniji zagotavlja operativno sposobnost, oprto na civilna in vojaška sredstva, ki jih EU lahko uporablja pri misijah zunaj svojih meja za ohranjanje miru, preprečevanje konfliktov in krepitev mednarodne varnosti v skladu z načeli Ustanovne listine OZN. Za izvajanje teh misij se uporabijo zmogljivosti, ki jih zagotovijo države članice (člen 42.1 PEU).
